TwinScopes use Rachelleaning 670

Tuesday, June 13th,  2pm -3pm at The Clearing Folk School - Jensen Center

See history in a new way! Join us for a special event that includes an interactive display of 19th century stereographs (3D photography). Featured speaker Colleen Woolpert will share the history of this unique photography format and her own stereoscopic artwork in a talk entitled "TwinScope: Bringing Stereographs to (Contemporary) Life."  Following the talk, attendees will be invited to use stereoscopes to view a selection of vintage stereographs including those likely to have been enjoyed by Door County residents. Colleen Woolpert produces stereograph exhibitions, public artworks and events. Her patent-pending TwinScope Viewer (inspired by her twin sister's struggle with depth perception) offers a long-standing need for an exhibition stereoscope and has been acquired by collectors and institutions across the country.

"Stereographs are important cultural assets for a number of reasons, among them: they are the earliest examples of documentary photography and mass media; they offer primary visual source material for historical research, representing societal attitudes of their time; they wed art with science to illustrate binocular vision; and they are the progenitors of all 3-D imaging technology including the beloved View-Master, 3-D cinema, and the new frontiers of virtual and augmented reality." ~Colleen Woolpert
